The American Bulldog

All of us at Hot Water Rescue are, of course, also lovers of this handsome, amazing breed. Our own Barbie Perry is the CT representative of American Bulldog Rescue.

American Bulldogs are of course not a breed meant for everyone, but in the right families they are a wonderful and loyal breed of dog. These dogs have been bred for hundreds of years working towards the goal of strength, dependability, loyalty, and beauty.

There are different styles of American Bulldogs that do all differ significantly in physical appearance. The information being provided is very general. If you are looking to learn more about a specific style it would be best to contact us and we will do our best to guide you towards the best decision and the best style of dog for you...

American Bulldogs can vary in size significantly, you can see styles as small as 50 lbs, and as large as 150 lbs. These dogs can be fawn in color, but the most common markings for them is to be white with patches of other colors (whether they be fawn, blue, black, or what is seen most often, brindle). These dogs are bred to be working dogs, and are a strong and determined breed. They require exercise, lots of play time, and any activity that can be challenging given they are a working breed. You do also see some of the larger ones usually with a more mushy, gentle giant style temperament where some of the smaller ones are more likely to be active, enjoy agility, etc...

American Bulldogs are known for being great with children, and great family guardians. They do have a predisposed prey drive, so it is important to take that into account when thinking of adding one of these loving babies to your home. If you already own a dog it is best to have the American Bulldog you adopt be the opposite sex of your current dog..(And of course, make sure your pets are altered). It is also important if you do have kitties to explore whether or not the American Bulldog you are considering is good with cats. They are prone to having a drive to not get along with them, however there are of course many that are friends with cats as well...
