Surrendered in hard times to a local firehouse, Midnight found himself confused and so sad but he knew exactly who to cuddle up with. One of our long-time volunteers happened to work at the firehouse Midnight was abandoned at. Here’s what he wrote about Midnight:

"Midnight's day started out like most, actually even better then most. His dad bought him a gift, a big yummy rawhide bone. Then grabbed his leash, hooked him up (to the most ridicules collars ever - yes there were a few which can be seen in his pic) and out the door they went. They went on a much longer walk then usual but Midnight couldn’t be happier walking alongside the man he had known since a pup and loved more then anything. They came to a stop, Midnight looked up at his dad and then at the big building in front of him realizing things were unusually different for a reason; he knew his life was about to change.

Midnight watched as his dad spoke about him, pleading with the fireman not to take Midnight to the shelter but to keep him or find him a home. He watched as his dad carried the few belongings he had, including his rawhide from the morning into the firehouse. Midnight is unbelievable intuitive and very smart. You could see his heart breaking. His dad handed over his leash, turned and then walked away. Midnight watched and waiting for his dad to turn back. He had such a concerned look on his face. He knew, he knew his dad was gone, that he’d never see him again, never hear his voice call his name, never receive the loving pat on his head he had grown so fond of and there was nothing he could say or do.

I know that if Midnight could speak he would have said, “Father, why have you left me behind? What have I done wrong? Have I not loved you, been there for you, cared for you? Was I not your best friend, always there for you in times of need? When you came home was I not always happy to see you? Did I not love you enough? Please Father, tell me, tell me what it is and I will change!” People need to change!!!

Midnight spent the rest of the night cuddled by my side with his head on my lap, when I got up, he got up; he even poked his head in the shower to make sure I was still there. In a short time, we grew such a great bond. He is truly an amazing animal and deserves the best forever home there is! I know his family is out there somewhere and can’t wait to tell them all about Midnight."

Midnight is in a foster home with other dogs, cats and children and is doing very well. He is housebroken, crate-trained, walks well on a leash and is fully vetted.
