Jackie (formerly Boots)Jackie's mom sent us an update in 12/2006:I thought you'd enjoy hearing about one of your puppies placed so long after they have found homes. Jackie turned out to be quite the little pistol when she hit adolescence, but she's on her way to becoming a wonderful adult dog. This summer we adopted another dog, a kerry blue, who often acts like she's her dam and they get along extremely well. Jackie, though half her weight, is nearly the same height so its pretty funny to watch her being 'the baby'. Yes, she's a slight little thing, but she just has a gangly build. That 'growing puppy' look of being all appendages only seemed to get more pronounced as she grew up. It's cute, plus she's able to keep up with the greyhounds at her daycare with those long legs. We never did compete at Flyball with her...it didn't seem to be her thing. She was always far more interested in greeting the people standing around than in getting a ball that wasn't moving and inevitably another dog would bring over anyway. Maybe one day we'll find her a job that she'd enjoy more, but right now WalMart isn't hiring canine greeters. Jackie's mom tells us:Jackie has been our precious little princess from the time we brought her home almost 4 months ago. She took to obedience and housebreaking training like a duck to water and it takes her no time at all to learn something new. She's smart and inquisitive, always watching us carefully and trying to figure out how things work. We've put Jackie in some puppy flyball training at her vet's "okay" and she really seems to enjoy it. Although, sometimes having lots of people around who all have treats in their pockets can be even more interesting than learning a new game. She's also recently taught herself how to throw her own ball and we can play catch now in addition to fetch, tug, and chase the laser pointer. Her aim is pretty good. |
