Licorice
Licorice's family writes:"Dear Hot Water Rescue Success Stories,
This is our newest girl Licorice. We adopted her a few months ago from Hot Water Rescue. She was close to her termination date when we got her and we are so happy we found her first. Licorice is aptly named because she licks to show her affection, even if it is at 5:00 AM.
She is our fourth animal rescue and she is the most grateful pet we have ever had. She was rescued from a kill shelter in NY City and brought up here for a second chance. She was adopted into our family with two children - 7 and 9 y/o - a bunny and the resident male dog, a seven-year-old pit/lab cross. She showed great interest in Mr. Bunny the first few days (who lives in the kitchen) she now pays him little mind, aside from being nipped from time to time as she licks him through the gates because Bunny thinks he is the dominate male in the house.
I have seen my daughter walk Licorice on the end of a ribbon as if she were not even a tethered and my son throw the ball for an hour as she returned it to him happily each time. She has been a compassionate friend to our male dog who has had some troubles with porcupines, that Licorice never takes part in, but is kind during the male's recovery.
One of the most endearing stories I have been told about Licorice was from my husband who described her interactions with a friends four-year-old child. Licorice runs with a small pack of other dogs on the job site. One day she noticed one of the other dogs getting ready to take food from the small child’s hand Licorice grabbed the dog without hurting him and pinned him to the floor just long enough for the child to toddle away and then released the dog without complication. This dog amazes me every day. We are so lucky to have her. She is a true testament to why rescue dogs can be the best companions ever.
Thank you again Hot Water Rescue, I will see you again,
T. Gallo"
